On-demand dog-walking service gets San Antonio tails wagging

Rejoice, dog owners. San Antonio paw-parents no longer have to face the guilt of leaving their dogs alone all day. Wag, the on-demand dog-walking service, is now available in San Antonio.

The Los Angeles-based company offers 20-, 30-, and 60-minute walks via an app; owners can schedule a walk with as little as 30 minutes notice in Alamo City.

Through the app, owners can track Fido’s whereabouts. Dog walkers can report a dog’s behavior, send photos or videos, and track where and when nature calls.

“It’s a very transparent service that makes you feel like you’re right there with your dog,” says Josh Viner, co-founder and CEO of Wag.

The service launched in San Antonio in early May as part of a 16-city expansion from its original roots in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York, and Viner says it has already been a barking success.

Wag’s flexibility allows owners to book 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Each 20-minute walk is $14, 30-minute walks are $20, and 60-minute walks are $30. Each additional dog is $5.

Nervous about strangers handling your best friend? Each Wag walker undergoes a screening process and background check. And if you need more than a walk, no problem — boarding and pet sitting services are also available.

Best of all, though, is that with each walk booked through the app, Wag donates one meal to shelter dogs through Houston non-profit Rescue Bank.

Other Texas cities where Wag is available include Fort Worth, Dallas, Houston, and Austin. The service hopes to expand to other cities in Texas soon and is accepting walker applications in El Paso.
